Is Your Child About to Start Losing Their Teeth? Here’s How to Make It Fun

Sometimes losing baby teeth can be a scary experience, especially if the child is just starting. No matter how scary it is for the child, it’s still going to happen. Instead of fighting with your child and making the process even scarier, why don’t you make it a little more fun? Fortunately, there are many things you can do to help your child feel excited about losing teeth, and our dentist, Dr. Susan Francis , is happy to give you some ideas.

First, introduce your child to the Tooth Fairy. They won’t actually meet her, of course, but they’ll learn about her and how she loves kids who lose their baby teeth. Tell them that when they lose their baby teeth, the Tooth Fairy will reward them. All they need to do is put the tooth in a sandwich bag under their pillow before they go to bed at night. The Tooth Fairy will visit them, take the tooth, and replace it with a treasure!

Second, let your child create a door sign for the Tooth Fairy. The door sign will notify the Tooth Fairy and tell her a tooth has been lost and it’s ready for pickup. You can find Tooth Fairy door signs on the American Dental Association website. Have your child color the sign and hang it on their door when they’re ready!

Third, have the Tooth Fairy leave a tooth receipt. (You can also access the receipts on the ADA website). The receipt requests the child’s name and age, the date of collection, the number of teeth, and the payment provided. There is also a section for the Tooth Fairy to leave a special note. The Tooth Fairy can leave this receipt along with the treasure under your child’s pillow!
